The community of Unalaska is a busy place to live. Our community calendar is full of events and activities. About Town is your source for coverage of community events and sports. KUCB staff writes many of the stories, but we also accept contributions from community members for this section of our website. If you'd like to submit a story to About Town, send it to info@kucb.org.

Basketball Coverage Takes a Village

Erin Enlow

A big thanks to Lori Lane and Rande Leggett for their amazing work as sportscasters last night.  KUCB was unable to find a crew to call the games, and we were grateful for the assistance of these two volunteers.  Their coverage kicked off 4 days of live radio broadcasts from the Kenai Peninsula.

Rande and Lori went above and beyond to bring basketball coverage to friends and family back home.  You can help too!  We are in the midst of an important fundraiser to help offset the high costs of sports coverage on KUCB.  Five hundred raffle tickets are on sale now for $15 each.  Seven tickets will be drawn, and win over $3,000 in cash prizes.  KUCB staff and board would be more than happy to bring tickets to you!  Drop us a line by phone (581-1888) or email.

Last night, the boys defeated Nikolaevsk 49-38.  The boys will now move on to a tournament in Homer, where they'll play Homer, Ninilchik, and Bristol Bay.

Weather delays meant the girls weren't able to compete last night, but they are headed to a tournament in Seldovia.

KUCB's schedule of upcoming game broadcasts is as follows:

Thursday, February 11

  • 8 PM  Raider boys vs Homer

Friday, February 12

  • 3 PM Raider Girls vs Homer JV
  • 5 PM Raider boys vs Ninilchik

Saturday, February 13

  • 9 AM Raider Girls vs CIA
  • 2:30 PM Raider Boys vs Bristol Bay
