Another Great UCSD Science Fair

Last Tuesday after school, science fair participants from grades 7-12 gathered in the high school gymnasium for the UCSD Science Fair. For most students, it has been the culmination of months of work on their project. Parents, teachers, staff, and community members were invited to observe the hard work of these young scientists.

The winners of the science fair were announced Thursday. There are four categories that the projects are grouped into. For Physical Science, Umar Hill won first place, Mercedez Caudillo and Kathleen Tan won second, and Kyle Tungul won third. For Chemistry, Alexis Magalong and Audrey Schomer won first, Blaine Henning, Bruce Tan, and Landon Shaishnikoff won second, and Alex Schliebe won third. For Biology, Kristian Fernandez and Alyssa Tungul won first, Ellen Yang and Denali Adams won second, and Halle Savage and Sasha Rankin won third. For Behavioral and Social Sciences, Mia Magalong won first, Kaye Gumera and Amber Le won second, and Nate Tungul, Paul Ilad, and Henry Simmonds won third.

The overall winner was Umar Hill and the runner up was Mia Magalong. They will represent the Unalaska City School District at the state science fair in Anchorage. Good job to all participants!
