City Manager Thomas E. Thomas has submitted his letter of resignation to the Unalaska City Council, which is expected to accept it at a meeting next week.

The meeting's packet — made public Friday afternoon — includes Thomas' letter, submitted three days after councilors called a special session to discuss his contract and took no action.

No one was injured in a truck fire that erupted Thursday on Unalaska's Airport Beach Road.

The incident occurred on the straightaway below Bunker Hill just after 11:30 a.m.

Resident Nathaniel Buesing witnessed the blaze.

"I heard the police siren going off," he said. "I looked out my window and saw a truck on fire, so I decided to video it."

That video shows the hood and cab of a white pickup engulfed in flames while a big cloud of black smoke billows into the air.

Unalaska's cash-strapped clinic is one step closer to receiving $500,000 in emergency funds that'll help keep its doors open.

Last week, the City Council unanimously advanced legislation that would provide the nonprofit Iliuliuk Family and Health Services (IFHS) with a loan to be repaid in 10 years.

City Manager Thomas E. Thomas drew up the agreement, with help from the city attorney.

Unalaska Community Broadcasting has covered local news for the past 20 years.

To mark the newsroom's anniversary, KUCB is spending every Thursday of 2019 looking back at our former reporters and sharing some of their stories.

This April, we’re focusing on Alexandra Gutierrez, who led the newsroom between 2010 and 2012.

KUCB’s Zoë Sobel spoke with Gutierrez about her experience moving from the East Coast to Unalaska with no expectations.
