Unalaska's City Council wants Erin Reinders to be the next city manager; a look at Reinders's career in local government; and how Alaska's governor may exercise his veto power in the coming months.

In January, Amazon started collecting sales tax on online purchases made in Unalaska — a move that took residents and city officials by surprise.

KUCB's Laura Kraegel has more on the development that's expected to put new revenue in city coffers by the end of the month.

"So, let's see," says Vic Fisher, pulling up an Amazon receipt on his phone. "Where is 'My Orders'?"

The City Council wants Erin Reinders as Unalaska's next city manager.   

At a special meeting Thursday night, councilors heaped praise on Reinders — who currently works as assistant manager — before voting unanimously to start negotiations on a contract that'll promote her to the top job.

"Erin is a real community member," said Vice Mayor Dennis Robinson. "Her interest is in this community, and she loves it. Her family loves it."

The City Council has called another special meeting, following the resignation of City Manager Thomas E. Thomas; Unalaskans are still grappling with Amazon's decision to start collecting sales tax on online purchases made on the island; and Unalaska Community Broadcasting is kicking off its spring fundraiser with a karaoke contest on Friday night.

The Unalaska City Council has called a special meeting Thursday night.

The only item on the agenda is an executive session entitled "Sole Source City Manager Position."
