After nearly a month without a reported case of COVID-19 on the island, the City of Unalaska confirmed Friday that an individual has tested positive for the virus.
The unnamed person is a UniSea employee and has been in quarantine since arriving in Unalaska via commercial flight on Oct. 7, according to a press release from the city.
The individual is being monitored by staff from Iliuliuk Family and Health Services, and contact tracing is underway.
The city said that anyone who flew into Unalaska on a commercial flight on that date is encouraged to monitor for symptoms and consider being tested five to seven days after the potential exposure.
To date, this marks 104 cases of the coronavirus in Unalaska, only one of which is currently active. According to the city, none of those are attributed to community spread, and the city's assessment of the local risk level is still set at "medium," per the thresholds established by Unalaska's Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
