Community Survey Will Help Develop 10-Year Plan for Unalaska

Hope McKenney/KUCB

The City of Unalaska Planning Department is conducting an online survey during the month of September to identify the needs of the community and inform the next decade of city land use and community development planning.

The survey can be found at the following link: https://arcg.is/1C0uDe

The community survey includes several subsections to identify and anticipate current and future needs in various subareas, including health and safety; parks, culture, and recreation; and community facilities and government. The results of this survey and other community feedback obtained at various public meetings will shape the content and direction of the 2030 Comprehensive Plan, the City’s master plan.

The 2030 Plan will serve as the guiding document for determining whether proposed programs and infrastructure projects are compatible with the goals of the City and its citizens, as well as provide an interpretive and directive guide for permitting, platting, and zoning. It is critical that the department have the honest opinions of as many community members as possible, to provide a plan that best represents and is in sync with the interests of the entire community.

Interested parties may also visit the department and discuss their vision for what they think Unalaska should look like in 2030. The Planning Department will also be holding a final visioning meeting for the 2030 Comprehensive Plan on October 5th, 2019, at the Makushin Room of the Grand Aleutian Hotel. Refreshments will be served. For more information about projects in the Planning Department, as well as any of the other services the Department provides, please call 581-3100.
