A massive volcanic eruption near the Kingdom of Tonga sent people nearby scrambling for higher ground and prompted warnings of tsunamis throughout the Pacific.While the physical impact in Alaska has been relatively minor, Alaskans with ties to Polynesian island communities say the emotional impact of waiting for news of friends, family and loved ones is heavy.

  • 15 adults and three kids spent a combined 20 hours out in the field, on foot and by car, covering a combined 27 miles of our circle. We had counters across Amaknak Island, along the Unalaska River into the valley, from Captains Bay to Morris Cove.

    Unalaska’s annual boat parade is happening Wednesday night. Participant Dan Loy says this is his fifth or sixth year driving his 20-foot boat, The Escape Plan, in the community event, which started in 2013.
  • Mike Barber, long time resident of Unalaska, passed away on Nov. 9, 2021, in Spokane, Washington after a battle with cancer. He's remembered for his generosity and desire to give back to the community.

    While they came close to qualifying, the Unalaska girls volleyball team won’t be heading to the state tournament this year. They finished up their season at Lumen Christi High School in Anchorage last weekend, after coming in third place against five other teams at regionals.
