Thank you, Unalaska, for making the Channel 8 Auction a big success.  This event is our biggest fundraiser of the year and a beloved local tradition.  We auctioned off more than 200 items, and all funds will support Channel 8 TV's operating budget.  Our two day event raised over $19,000 and we are grateful.  Here are the auction results:

There was a great turn out for the 25th Ice Cream Social, which took place last Sunday from 1pm to 4pm in the small high school gym.

Over 46 local businesses, boats, and community members donated over 200 door prizes, but it was the massive amounts of ice cream that stole the show.

Coordinator Susan Carlile said there were over 60 gallons of ice cream consumed in three hours, along with 15 cans of whipped cream and large amounts of hot fudge, strawberries, cherries, and candy toppings.

Unalaskans filled the Museum of the Aleutians (MOTA) galleries last Thursday during an open house hosted by the museum's seven board of directors.

The museum remains closed to the public, but a seasoned interim director has been taking stock and setting a new course for the 17-year-old institution.

The most entertaining television event of the year is right around the corner!  It's the Channel 8 Auction and it's coming to Unalaska on February 26 and 27, live from the Burma Road Chapel. We hope that you'll make a party out of it: invite your friends over, tune in, bid high and bid often to support community television. We'll have lots of great items again this year and our staff and volunteers can't wait to bring you another great show!

After months of closure, the Museum of the Aleutians (MOTA) will reopen to the public - at least for a few hours. The institution's governing board is hosting an open house this week for the community.
