Winter Band Concert Highlights Unalaska’s Young Musicians

Last Monday, December 11th, the Unalaska Band directed by Kerry McNamara had their annual Winter Band Concert. The event featured the 6th Grade Brass Band, the Junior High Band, and the High School Band.

The 6th Grade Brass Band played eight songs, from classical excerpts like "Ode to Joy" composed by

Beethoven to Christmas songs like "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" and "Holiday Sampler."  The 6th Grade Band only meets for a quarter of the school year so it is especially impressive that they were able to play this variety of music.

The Junior High Band played four songs, "Ancient Moon" by Elliot Del Borgo, and Christmas music, "Santa Meets Sousa," " The 3-Minute Nutcracker," and "Holiday March." The Junior High Band was big this year, with 22 members and 10 different instruments represented.

The High School Band also played four songs, "Gaudete," "Russian Christmas Music," "Shaker Variants," and "A Hanukkah Festival." A Hanukkah Festival showcased CJ Trinidad on the Clarinet with a large solo cadenza in the middle of the piece.

Overall, it was another great concert by the Unalaska City School District music department. Great job Raider musicians!
