Unalaska City School held the 8th annual Poetry Out Loud competition in the high school auditorium Monday, December 14th. Spearheaded by English teacher Amy Purevsuren, there were over 40 participants this year.
Students took the stage with a memorized poem of their choice and preformed it for an audience of students, staff and families. Their presentations were then assessed by four judges who announced the
winners at the end of the event.
Kiara Haist came in 3rd place, Bea Sevilla came in 2nd place and Kaye Gumera won the first place prize of $100 and a chance to go to regionals in Juneau.
