The community of Unalaska is a busy place to live. Our community calendar is full of events and activities. About Town is your source for coverage of community events and sports. KUCB staff writes many of the stories, but we also accept contributions from community members for this section of our website. Poetry Out Loud at Unalaska City School

Unalaska City School held the  8th annual Poetry Out Loud competition in the high school auditorium Monday, December 14th.  Spearheaded by English teacher Amy Purevsuren, there were over 40 participants this year.

Students took the stage with a memorized poem of their choice and preformed it for an audience of students, staff and families. Their presentations were then assessed by four judges who announced the

winners at the end of the event.

Kiara Haist came in 3rd place, Bea Sevilla came in 2nd place and Kaye Gumera won the first place prize of $100 and a chance to go to regionals in Juneau.

Chrissy worked as the Arts & Culture Director from 2015 until she moved away from the community in 2019. She now works with us as a consultant, producer, and video editor on special projects.
