Nome Games Will Tip-Off KUCB Sports Coverage for 2016

Unalaska City School District

The Unalaska boys' and girls' varsity basketball teams arrived in Anchorage this afternoon. The teens are on their way to play games in Anchorage, the Kenai Peninsula and Nome.

The teams were scheduled to leave Tuesday, but inclement weather grounded their flights.

The boys' team is slated to play a game tonight at Lumen Christi High School in Anchorage. These are their first games of the year, and coach Kent Russell says they’re excited for it.

"The boys have high expectations and they’re really excited to get off the island and play someone else.  I think they’re tired of playing scrimmages against each other so they’re really looking forward to getting out and seeing some tough completion in Lumen, Nome, Kotz, and Bethel."

After Anchorage, the boys' team will head to Nome to play teams from around the state in a tournament.

The girls' team will also compete tonight at Lumen Christi in Anchorage, then they will hit the road to challenge school teams on the Kenai Peninsula.  Due to other tournaments in Anchorage area, KUCB has been unable to find sportscasters to call the girls' games this week. KUCB can confirm that we will be airing live all of the boys' games played in Nome.  Games will broadcast on Thursday at 7:30, Friday at 2 PM, and Saturday at 7:30 PM on KUCB 89.7 FM.

Next week, Unalaska will host basketball games against Service High School.  The boys and girls will play on Jan. 15 and 16th in the high school gym.   We will continue to post basketball broadcast updates to our website as the season progresses.
