Five Straight Wins for the UCSD Band

Kerry McNamara

The Unalaska City High School Band traveled to Anchorage last weekend to attend the Aurora Regional Music Festival at Grace Christian School. Despite some very tough competition, the band won the large ensemble category of adjudications for the fifth consecutive year in a row under director Kerry McNamara.

The event started on Thursday with an opening concert featuring various bands and choirs from the region. Led by McNamara, the UCSD Band played Bohemian Rhapsody.

On Friday, the band performed three pieces for adjudication, including Three Ayres from Gloucester by Hugh M. Stuart, Mt. Everest by Rossano Galante, and Nathan Hale Trilogy by James Curnow.

The closing concert and awards ceremony took place on Saturday and four musicians from Unalaska received first chair in Honor Band: Bridget Nalam on oboe, CJ Trinidad on clarinet, Amiel Fernandez on alto saxophone, and Henry Simmonds on tenor saxophone.

This year, all solo and ensemble participants made it to State including CJ Trinidad, Zara Alvarado, Kevin Tran, and Daniel Peters. Congratulations to Kerry McNamara and all of the members of the UCSD High School Band!
