It’s official. Frank Kelty will be mayor of Unalaska, and Roger Rowland will keep his seat on the City Council.
The council certified the results of the city’s runoff election at a special session Monday night.
Current Mayor Shirley Marquardt was not at the meeting. She lost her reelection bid by just five votes last week, after holding the top job for more than a decade.
Kelty and Rowland will be sworn into office on Nov. 22. That’ll leave Kelty’s current City Council seat vacant.
City Manager Dave Martinson said the city will start accepting applications for the seat on Wednesday. Applications are due on Dec. 7, and the city will appoint Kelty’s replacement on Dec. 13.
